Hello @Michael Slavitch! Welcome! I would like to suggest you the following videos, I found it very helpful to start my testing environment.

thanks for sharing the above links @Hercules Gabriel da Silva e Mazucato 👍
@Michael Slavitch What type of edge servers do you have? Should be easy to set up an otel collector instance in each of the edge servers and comfigure it to send data to SigNoz

m
Ubuntu NUCs and soon ARM based devices.
p
Hey @Michael Slavitch You can refer to the instructions here to integrate OtelCollector Agent to bunch of servers. You can send data to the Agent which in-turn would relay it to SigNoz via otlp. https://github.com/SigNoz/benchmark/tree/main/docker#binary You can download relevant
v0.43.0
OtelCollector Agent asset for your machine/device from here: https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-releases/releases/tag/v0.43.0
m
How do I set up a signoz collector in the cloud, and does that collector have authentication and support https?
I install the OtelCollector Agent running. Does it collect any stats on its own?
I am following the instructuions for https://github.com/SigNoz/benchmark/tree/main/docker#binary Still not seeing any data.

@Michael Slavitch which metrics did you try to plot in the SigNoz dashboard? Can you confirm if hostmetrics are enabled - should be something like this https://github.com/SigNoz/benchmark/tree/main/docker#configuration Also do share the logs you are seeing in otelcollector agent - what do you see on doing
sudo journalctl -u otelcol
m
Yes the host metrics are there.
I figured out that you don't support autofill of variables yet.
p
yeah - we don't have autosuggestions of variables yet. You may need to do this to find the variables available in your SigNoz installation. Then you can choose the metrics you want to plot
m
I figured it out. Now I'm having problems with alerts. See the top level thread.
p
oh, cool. So you are able to plot host metrics in SigNoz?
m
Yes but I can't get alarms for up == 0
p
Got it. Will get back to you on that in a few hrs
