Adding restart tags to the docker-compose results ...

Adding restart tags to the docker-compose results in "something went wrong" and only a couple of services running. So, I tried adding the docker compose command as a service, but it still seems very inconsistent and I typically need to restart the service on boot. What is the official method?

Yes, same issue, and only a couple of the containers keep running. Let me switch back to the compose method and post it

now once I add the restart:always it also errors with 
yaml: line 220: did not find expected ',' or ']'
Despite not changing that line... point is, restarting I would assume should be on by default, but there's not even comments in the code on how to do it, and the docs just say to start it with compose up and to stop it with compose down
