Is there a documented API for alerts to schedule a downtime for an alert? or even better a way to schedule downtime for specific hosts on an alert

I couldn't find anything for scheduling downtime. You could try to debug the UI to see what it is doing. DM me if you're struggling and I'll have a look to see if I can help you.

As of now we don’t have support for that, but sound’s like a good feature. Can you open an issue for this . cc @Srikanth Chekuri
