to be added as resource attributes to the spans, Should i configure it from each of my application? Im running on K8s, is there an easy way around to configure the same ?

You can add a resource processor https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/blob/main/processor/resourceprocessor/README.md in your local collector
